Traditions across the seven seas

I watched the movie Achamundu Achamundu over the course of a week whenever Kavya would let me watch it !!! It took me one whole week to watch the 16 parts of the movie..:0)

I loved the character that Sneha plays in the movie..She plays a woman who doesnt leave behind the Indian culture even after coming to the US. She wears bindi and the mangalsutra chain even when she wears jeans :-) Thats exactly me..Just because some angrezi will ask the meaning for my bindi or for the chain in my neck, I dun give up on putting on these things..What is the point in spending lakhs and lakhs of rupees and tying the knot with the agni as saakshi if you can remove the so called sacred thread - Thali whenever you please. I just dont get it..Is it this generation or am I too conservative ? If one does not like wearing the thali, then why make a big fuss and spend all that money for the rituals and all that stuff...that money can be saved for the future of the kids..
Its not just the desis in other nations that do it...I hve even seen some Indian brides remove their thalis and roam around with bare necks and bindhi-less forehead just a week after marriage and it is really painful for me to see such things..

Well, let me reserve my comments for I too am a mom of a daughter...:-)
