On a bright Saturday afternoon, I decided to watch this movie after having heard so many good reviews about it. And I felt the movie was different in its own way. Be it the costumes or the names...I am not used to any names other than Rahul,Raj and Rohan in Hindi movies..So, seeing a hero with a name Shekhar was in itself different and so was the heroine's name - Lolita.Since this movie is set completely in Bengal, the names and everything else in this movie is so bengalish :-)
The movie is a story of a childhood friendship blossoming into love. Well, whats new..we have seen so much of it in the hindi movies now..Here the difference is the way in which the pair realises that they are in love !!! When lil Lolita moves in as a neighbour to lil Shekhar, he becomes very fond of her and takes care of her...they grow up together (well actually in a song !!!!)..and are about to get married. As always, Shekhar's dad is a business tycoon and he wants him to marry a Gayatri...Lolita on the other side has a guy from London,Girish who falls in love with her ( Love at first sight on seeing her in candlelight). As the scenes unfold, Shekhar and Lolita realise that they were made for each other and unite..ofcourse there are some sentiment stuff and all that..
Vidya Balan as Lolita is fresh, beautiful and has fitted very well in her role. Saif's performance was a surprise. Somehow, I find Sanjay Dutt old...If u ask me, he shud stop acting as a hero chasing young heroines..Somehow Sanjay Dutt flirting and hinting at Vidya balan wasnt all that great to look at. But the movie doesnt drag except the last scene where Saif tried to break down a wall with a fountain. My God..where do people get such ideas and he suceeds in breaking it also ! The wall breaking wasnt necessary at all,he could hav eeasily jumped over the wall to meet his love..But the director wanted to have his touch and maybe thats why he has troubled Saif so much. Not much to talk about music, but the song Piya Bole sure did stay on my mind!
Forgot to mention the most important part of the movie...The club song and dance by Rekha at Moulin Rouge( As they call in the movie)..Rekha looks amazing and adda beauty to the song...I never liked Rekha until I saw her in Bhooth..Her smoky and sharp eyes do look so good and beautiful !!! Thanks Ramya for reminding me about this one :-)
Watch this movie if you are in mood for a romantic movie :-)
