The art of giving and receiving compliments

I went to my neighbour's house for Varalakshmi Pooja the other day...She said 'You look so fit , that noone will believe you have a baby who is 1 year old already !'...I shud have said Thank You..I just smiled...I should have said something back to her atleast about the way she had decorated the Amman...But it just din strike me... In the Gymboree class, when someone compliments on how beautiful or funny Kavya is, I just say Thank You, I can say Oh your baby is pretty too..But somehow I dun get that !

The comfort level increases when a compliment given is returned with another...I can imagine how awful I would feel if I were the person who gave the compliment which did not get any response at all...During my college days, one of my friends used to do this...If I tell her that her outfit is nice she will say 'So.....'....I will be cursing myself for having said anything at all to her...And there are some people whose compliments I can never understand...Something sarcastic which could mean this way or that way too doesnt count as a good compliment, does it..

Giving compliments and reacting appropriately when one is given is definitely not me :-) But I hope to improve on it as time goes by !!!!

Hi Lavanya,
This reminds me of a friend who responded with a matter-of-fact 'I know' when I told her she had beautiful eyes :D ...
We knew her, so we just pulled her legs about it and had a good laugh! I think its ok to be yourself :-)
