Wedding Gift !

You see ur best friend blush for no reason...She doesnt respond to your mails promptly..she is always lost in her thoughts...she keeps looking at herself in the mirroe and she keeps talking about one person always...Do you see these symptoms in ur friend ?? Chances are that she is going to tell you
"Its time to break the surprise..I am getting married"

Well...u feel happy for ur friend, tease her,ask her some stupid questions like how does he look, what does he do, how does he call you etc etc...And then after all of it is over, you have this the million dollar question pops up in your mind
" WHAT GIFT SHOULD I GIVE HER ???"

Its a rather difficult thing to choose gifts for friends esp the gifts that you give on the wedding..The standard gifts once upon a time used to be
  • Kuthu vilakku or
  • Dinner set which the couple will never ever use (If you gave a dinner set to one of your friends, chances are that the dinner set will come back to you as a gift when your children get married :op) or
  • Wall hangings which contain some weird pictures or pictures of some cats or dogs ! or
  • If it is a gift from the office, it would be a biiiig suitcase or a electric cooker or a biig velakku or definitely something that looks biiig...Intha 200 rupees giftkku 50 people wud have shared !!!!!!
  • Wall clock that sings at every hour..the singing is a headache in most of the houses and these days you hardly find any clocks in houses that sings jack and jill or merry go round the mulberry bush !!

I have to pick up a few wedding gifts for my friends now and I am going mad thinking about what "WEDDING GIFT" I can give them..Though I can select gifts for my friends very thoughtfully....when they are married, I need to give them some great gifts that will make them proud of it !!! Something about which they can say "Wow, this is such a wonderful gift you gave me !!"

I am still thinking and hopefully by the end of this weekend I will be able to get some ideas !!!!!

Gone are those days when I used to spend a lot of time thinking abt the gifts to give, wandering around the malls to buy 'em, pack them beautifully and etc., Nowadays, am just picking up the gift cards from one of the stores like BestBuy/Gap/Crate&Barrel/AMEX or sometimes even straigt mall gift cards... In fact, the money spent on gifts have gone higher... much higher... But I don't think anybody cares for the gifs anymore... Neither the giver nor the getter... But I guess, life has become more hectic??? I don't know.

Btw, did u decide upon the gift?

yeah, i agree with rak. Best thing is to give gift vouchers. Those were the ones I put into best use when I got married. But I should warn you, choose from a place that has a good collection. my colleagues gave me a gift voucher for 5000/- from a store which offered very less collection and the items were very high priced. Finally, I could just buy a bed spread and a couple of pillow covers for that price!
